Somaliland Upper House election to take place Today
Six candidates will be elected to Upper House as electoral process for northern regions scheduled to commence on Sunday.
Jama’a Mohamed Ghalib, who is the chairperson of a committee assigned to organise the Upper House elections for Somaliland seats has confirmed the commencement of Upper House elections.
“Election of Upper House seats allocated for Somaliland will kick off today,” said Ghalib.
Somalia’s electoral body said sixteen candidates will contest on the first six seats of the Upper House elections for Somaliland community.
The electoral process will be overseen by the Federal Indirect Electoral Implementation Team (FIEIT) in order to make sure that the electoral process to take place freely and fairly.
Somaliland is the only region yet to commence the Upper House electoral process. Jubbaland, HirShabelle, South West State, Galmudug Benadir and Puntland have filled seats allocated to them in the Upper House.
Somaliland which is only region whose elections of Upper and Lower House seats are taking in Somalia’s capital city, Mogadishu was allocated 46 seats in the House of the People and 11 seats in the Upper House.
