Somnet Telecom to Suspend Services Temporarily For Network Upgrade in Mogadishu

Storyline:Business

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somnet Telecom has said it will temporarily suspend its telecommunications services in parts of Mogadishu as it carries out a scheduled upgrade aimed at improving network quality and internet speeds.

The company said the maintenance work, which includes system enhancements, will take place overnight and may disrupt services for several hours. It did not specify the exact duration but said normal operations would resume once the upgrade is completed.

Somnet Telecom said the improvements are intended to enhance overall service delivery, including faster internet connectivity and more reliable communication services for customers.

The company apologised for the inconvenience and urged customers to contact its support channels for assistance during the downtime.

Telecom providers in Somalia have increasingly invested in infrastructure upgrades in recent years, driven by rising demand for mobile data and digital services. The country has one of the most competitive telecom markets in the region, with private operators playing a central role in expanding connectivity despite limited state infrastructure.

Frequent system upgrades have become common as operators seek to keep pace with growing usage, particularly in urban centres such as Mogadishu, where businesses and residents rely heavily on mobile internet for daily activities.
