GOOBJOOG NEWS|SEOUL: Somalia faces an extended travel ban by South Korea after the south-east Asian nation issued a travel ban to its citizens against visiting Somalia for another six months due to prolonged security threats in the Horn of Africa Nation.

Countries sanctioned include Iraq as well as Syria, Yemen, Libya, Afghanistan and the southern Philippine islands of Zamboanga, Sulu, Basilan and Tawi-Tawi.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Friday that the ban was scheduled to take place on January 31.

According to the Ministry of Nominated Countries, Somalia faces constant threats of terrorist attacks and political instability that are likely to persist for a long time.

Travel to Iraq, Syria, Somalia and Afghanistan has been banned since 2007. Seoul banned Yemen in 2011, Libya in 2014 and the islands of the Philippines in 2015.
