GOOBJOOG NEWS | JUBA: South Sudan has said it fully supports the African Union (AU) and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) positions on the sovereignty of the Federal Republic of Somalia, reaffirming its backing for Somalia’s unity and territorial integrity.

In a statement issued by its Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the government said it remains committed to the unity of Somalia within its internationally recognised borders, underscoring regional consensus on the matter.

The ministry added that South Sudan’s position is aligned with regional and continental frameworks, including the AU Constitutive Act, as well as international laws and treaties governing state sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The statement comes amid heightened regional focus on Somalia’s territorial integrity, with East African and international partners closely watching developments affecting stability in the Horn of Africa.

South Sudan said it would continue to uphold the principles of regional cooperation and international law in its foreign policy engagements, particularly on issues affecting peace and security in the region.
