South West administration announces to reopen the Mogadishu-Baidoa road

South West administration has announced to carry out a massive operation to open the road link between Baidoa and Mogadishu.

Nuradin administration spokesman said in an interview with Goobjoog News “that the purpose of the mission is to eradicate terrorist and allow free movement between the two societies.”

“The significance of the move not only allows for free movement of the population but also opens up this key supply route and allows for the provision of humanitarian aid,” said Nuradin

The governor said the operation will be carried out by the Somalia National Army (SNA) backed with AMISOM forces to begin in the coming few days.

“This operation will begin as soon as possible, the troops are ready, there will be no more insecurity in the linking road between Baidoa and Mogadishu,” said the spokesman.

Meanwhile, Gama’s spokesperson called on the residents to closely work with the security forces to ensure that the movement between the capital Mogadishu and Baidoa for the people is safe.

The main road from Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu, to the strategic south-western city of Baidoa has been totally recaptured from Islamist militants on the last few years.

Security in the capital Mogadishu has improved since al-Shabab withdrew from the city on August 2011, but its fighters still launch attacks.
