South West elects 5 lawmakers to the House of the People in Baidoa
Goobjoog News/Baidoa: South West State has Wednesday successfully elected 5 representatives to the Lower House of Somali’s Federal Parliament in Baidoa, becoming the first state to observe the 9th January guidelines adopted at the National Council Consultative meeting in Mogadishu.
The first seat to be contested for, was HOP 184 which was occupied for the last four years by the outgoing FGS Minister of Energy and Water Resources, Hassan Abdinur Abdi. Abdi beat his main contender, Mohamed Abdullahi Ali by grnering 72 votes while Mohamed Ali received 27 votes. One vote was spoiled.
HOP 085 seat was contested by Sharif Mohamed Abdalla, who is the incumbent MP and Mohamed Hussein Mukhtar. Sharif Mohamed Abdalla trounced Mohamed Hussein Mukhtar after receiving 79 votes while his rival received 19 votes, with 3 abstentions.
Mohamed Mursal Mohamud Borow and Abdihakin Mustaf Ibrahim competed for the Hop 176 seat. Mohamed Borow emerged the winner after receiving 73 votes while his rival Abdihakin Mustaf Ibrahim received 26 votes, with one abstention.
The fourth seat, HOP 046 previously held by Rabaco Sheikh Nur was contested by Mohamed Wardhere Abdi and Abdullahi Samow Osman. Mohamed Wardhere Abdi becomes the new entrant to the South West Lower House after receiving 83 votes, while his rival, Abdullahi Samow Osman received 11 votes, with one abstention.
The Fifth seat, HOP156 seat, was contested by about 100 delegates, with Mohamed Aden Mohamed receiving 88 votes while his rival Mohamed Ibrahim Issack received 10 votes, losing by two votes.
Up to 100 delegates voted for each seat in the recently concluded election in the city of Baidoa, with the process seen as the right step towards completion of the country’s elections.
