Speaker Madobe Kicks Off Voter Registration in Key Step Toward Universal Suffrage

GOOBJOOG NEWS | HUDUR: Federal Government of Somalia parliamentary speaker Sheikh Adan Mohamed Nur (Madobe) Thursday registered as a voter in Hudur, the capital of the Bakool region, marking a symbolic and political milestone in the country’s push for one-person, one-vote elections.
Madobe’s public participation in the launch of the voter registration campaign underscores growing momentum behind Somalia’s democratic reform agenda and the federal government’s commitment to ending clan-based selection systems.
Flanked by officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Madobe said the move signals the start of a more inclusive and accountable electoral process.
The INEC reaffirmed its commitment to conducting transparent and credible elections and ensuring that all eligible citizens can register to vote.
The rollout in Bakool is expected to be followed by similar initiatives in other federal member states, as Somalia eyes its first nationwide direct elections in over half a century.
