GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia’s Speaker of the House of the People, Sheikh Aden Mohamed Nur (Madoobe), on Wednesday called for unity and legislative momentum as he addressed the National Consultative Conference in Mogadishu, a high-level forum focused on shaping the country’s political and constitutional future.

Speaking at the second day of the gathering, Speaker Madoobe described the conference as a critical milestone in Somalia’s journey toward inclusive governance and national cohesion.

“This conference is not only a platform for consultation, but a testament to how far we have come as a nation, and how much further we must go, together,” he told delegates.

Madoobe emphasized the role of the Federal Parliament in advancing reforms through lawmaking, reaffirming its commitment to completing the long-awaited review of the Provisional Constitution.

The review process is seen as key to cementing Somalia’s federal system and legal foundations after decades of conflict and fragmentation.

“The Federal Parliament stands ready to pass the laws necessary for effective governance,” Madoobe said. “Our focus is to ensure the constitution reflects the aspirations of the Somali people.”

The National Consultative Conference brings together leaders from Somalia’s federal and member state governments. The forum aims to build consensus on core national priorities, including constitutional reform, federalism, security, and reconciliation.

Somalia has made notable strides in institution-building and political dialogue in recent years, despite persistent challenges from insecurity and economic fragility. The current conference is viewed as an opportunity to reinforce political will and foster cooperation across government levels.

The speaker’s remarks come amid broader efforts by the Somali government under the “DanQaran” (National Interest) agenda to accelerate reforms, strengthen state institutions, and lay the groundwork for future elections.
