GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: The Somali Special Envoy for Drought Response, Abdirahman Abdishakur has welcomed the announcement on the reopening of the Kenya-Somalia border following President Mohamud’s visit to the Kenyan Republic.

In a statement issued this afternoon, the Presidential Special Envoy noted that the reopening of the Kenya-Somalia border will boost humanitarian access and remove barriers impeding the delivery of humanitarian aid to those in need.

MP Abdirahman Abdishakur appealed to the relevant authorities to immediately act on the order so that humanitarian supplies reach areas along the border and lives are saved.

“This is a very big relief for our effort to save lives and will definitely be crucial for vital humanitarian supplies to reach areas along the two borders. Our people are facing the worst drought in recent times and if we don’t act timely, we risk more loss of lives,” read part of the statement by MP Abdishakur.

“It is a step in the right direction which enhances the capacity of humanitarians to deliver aid and offer timely support. Grateful to the Presidents for the timely reopening of the long porous borders between our two great countries,” added the Special Envoy for Drought Response.
