SSC-Khatumo State Formation Enters the Final Stretch in Laas’Anod

GOOBJOOG NEWS|LAAS’ANOD: The state formation process in Laas’anod is entering the final stretch today as delegates resume talks to deliberate on consequential matters ahead of the announcement of the new Federal Member State.
Participants are expected to formally debate and adopt the draft constitution of the SSC-Khaatumo administration. Key issues on the table include the governance structure, electoral system, and the framework for public representation.
Senior officials, traditional elders, intellectuals, and delegates from across the SSC communities are attending the event. Many of them see this moment as a critical step toward lasting peace, inclusive governance, and sustainable development in a region long marred by instability and contested authority.
According to local sources, this marks the concluding leg of efforts that began months ago after local residents took full control of Laascaanood from Somaliland forces earlier this year. Since then, a series of community-led meetings have been held to lay the groundwork for self-rule.
Participants are expected to sign binding agreements today that will enshrine the new constitutional process, forming the legal and political foundation for SSC-Khaatumo’s future administration.
The conference is seen as a turning point in the political reorganisation of northern Somalia, with many hoping it will offer a model for locally-driven peace and governance efforts in other contested regions.
