Suspect Arrested After Deadly Attack on Police Officers in Garowe

GOOBJOOG NEWS|GAROWE: Security forces in Puntland have arrested a suspect accused of carrying out a deadly attack on police officers in Garowe, the capital of Nugaal region.

According to a brief statement released by the Puntland Police, officers from the Nugaal Regional Command apprehended a man identified as Abdirahman Mohamed Ali. The suspect is alleged to have launched a direct assault on a police team on duty on July 24.

The incident, which occurred in the heart of Garowe, left three police officers dead and two others injured after gunfire erupted in what authorities described as a targeted attack. Police say they were able to capture the suspect within hours, under the leadership of the Nugaal Regional Police Commander, Senior Officer Mohamed Ali Ahmed.

The suspect is currently being held at the central prison in Garowe and is expected to be handed over to the judicial authorities to face legal proceedings in accordance with the law.

The motive behind the attack has not been disclosed, and investigations are ongoing.

This latest incident highlights growing concerns over the safety of security personnel in Puntland, where sporadic acts of violence continue to pose challenges to regional stability.
