Suspected Pirate-Linked Clash In Garacad Leaves One Officer Dead, Police Commander Injured

GOOBJOOG NEWS|PUNTLAND: An armed confrontation early Thursday in Garacad district has left one Puntland security officer dead and several others injured, including a senior police commander, according to local sources.
The fighting reportedly broke out between Puntland security forces and armed militia believed to have been attempting to free detainees accused of piracy-related crimes from a police station in the area.
Preliminary reports indicate that at least three other individuals were wounded during the exchange. Among the injured is the police commander of Jariiban district, a former commander of the central police station in Garowe.
Puntland authorities have since deployed additional forces to the Garacad police station to reinforce security and prevent further escalation. The situation is currently calm, although security forces remain on high alert.
