Swiss Support Reinforced as Somalia Pushes Toward Democratic Transition

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia’s efforts to strengthen governance and prepare for democratic elections received a boost as Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre met with Swiss Ambassador Mirko Giulietti in Mogadishu for talks on deepening cooperation.

The meeting focused on consolidating international backing for Somalia’s political transition, with Prime Minister Hamza outlining progress under the “DanQaran” government and reaffirming the country’s path toward inclusive, people-driven elections.

“This government is committed to building a democratic Somalia where power belongs to the people,” the Prime Minister said, stressing that institutional reforms and political stability remain key priorities.

Ambassador Giulietti pledged Switzerland’s continued support in reconciliation, peace-building, and development, critical areas for Somalia as it moves away from decades of instability.

For Somalia, the engagement signals not only diplomatic recognition but practical support for reforms aimed at restoring trust in public institutions and strengthening national unity.

The meeting is expected to pave the way for expanded collaboration in governance, capacity building, and social development, reinforcing Somalia’s efforts to stabilize and rebuild.
