Ten killed in bomb attack on prisons headquarters in Mogadishu

GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: At least ten people were killed and ten others injured following a morning car bomb attack on prisons headquarters in Mogadishu.

A vehicle loaded with explosives rammed into the prisons headquarters located in the Ex-Control area along Mogadishu-Afgooye road early morning causing death and destruction in its wake.

Goobjoog News correspondent at the scene reports that at least ten people died while 10 others sustained injuries. The attackers hit the main entrance of the expansive facility as custodial officers were queuing for breakfast, a source said.

Pictures from the scene show the destruction of buildings and wreckages of motorbikes.

It was not immediately clear if the militant group Al-Shabaab which is known to carry such attacks claimed responsibility. The attack came a day after people in Mogadishu fled the city following tensions after government and opposition forces massed up for an imminent clash. The city has however remained calm.
