“The Viceroy”: Marco Rubio Rules Venezuela via “WhatsApp” Following Maduro’s Arrest
GOOBJOOG NEWS|WASHINGTON: United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio has effectively taken absolute control over the administration and executive decision-making in Venezuela following the arrest of President Nicolas Maduro.
According to a report published by The New York Times, international officials have begun referring to Rubio as “The Viceroy” due to his centralized authority in directing the country’s affairs directly from his office in Washington.
The report reveals that the United States government maintains absolute financial control over Venezuela, with the US Treasury Department managing the vast majority of the nation’s export revenues. Funds are distributed to Venezuelan banks in a manner described as “pocket money,” giving Rubio and his team ultimate authority to determine the scope and direction of government spending.
Furthermore, Delcy Rodríguez, who assumed temporary leadership of Venezuela with Washington’s blessing, reportedly receives direct instructions from Rubio via “WhatsApp” messages, through which he reviews and approves key political and administrative appointments.
Consequently, Venezuela’s foreign policy has completely lost its independence in the wake of Maduro’s arrest. Washington has reportedly compelled the interim administration to delete social media posts condemning US military actions against Iran, while also enforcing the extradition of individuals wanted by the US justice system. While the official stance from Washington remains focused on transition to democracy, the reality on the ground points to a delayed democratic process, with the timeline for future elections resting entirely in the hands of Marco Rubio and his team.
