Three Al-Shabaab suspects nabbed operations in Mogadishu
Three Al-Shabaab suspects have been arrested in security operation jointly conducted by Somalia’s security forces and African Union peacekeeping mission (AMISOM) troops on Tuesday in Mogadishu’s main market, Bakaro.
Spokesperson of the Ministry of Internal Security, Abdikamil Moalim Shukri told reporters that the operation was aimed at enhancing security and ensuring peace prevails in the region.
“Our forces and AMISOM troops have carried out security operations to comb some parts of Mogadishu, the forces nabbed three Al-Shabaab suspects,” said Shukri.
He said security operations were also carried out at several nighbourhoods in Howlwadag and Wardhigley districts.
“The forces also launched inspections in Howlwadag and Wardhigley districts where Al-Shabaab sympathisers suspected to be hiding, we shall keep on chasing those violating peace in Somalia,” he vowed.
Somali government has stepped up operations to secure the capital city ahead of Somalia’s parliamentary and presidential elections.
Somali government has been fighting with Al-Shabaab fighters for nearly decade.
Al-Shabaab wants to overthrow internationally recognised Somali government.
The group vowed to disrupt Somalia’s upcoming elections which scheduled to take place later this year.
