Baidoa Sets Example as Ministers Lead by Registering to Vote

GOOBJOOG NEWS | BAIDOA: Two senior Somali officials registered to vote in Baidoa on Tuesday, urging citizens across South West State and beyond to take part in the ongoing voter registration drive.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Isaaq Mahmoud Mursal and Deputy Minister of Planning for South West State Mohamed Aden Mohamed said their participation was a show of support for Somalia’s democratic journey and a message to the public: your voice matters.
“Voter registration is not just a personal right, it’s a national duty. This is how we shape the future we want for Somalia,” said Mursal, encouraging communities to turn out in large numbers.
Mohamed echoed the appeal. “Democracy begins at registration. If you want change, you must be counted,” he said.
The National Independent Electoral Commission (NIEC) is overseeing the registration process, which is underway in multiple regions. The commission has promised a transparent and secure system aimed at earning public trust and laying the groundwork for credible elections.
Authorities and community leaders have repeatedly stressed that widespread voter participation is essential for stability, representation, and the future of inclusive governance in Somalia.
