Traditional elders make efforts to diffuse tensions between two clan militias in Sool region
Traditional elders and intellectuals are making tireless efforts to ease tensions between two armed clan militia in Sool region.
Elder Ahmed Muhumad said that the traditional elders and religious leaders are in talks with the clans to find a lasting solution to the conflicts between the sides.
“We decided to diffuse the hostilities in the countryside because these are our boys, we want stand for peace and invite the fighting sides to the negotiating table to iron out their different” he said.
The recent clan clashes in Sool region has claimed the lives of many people mostly sides.
This comes a day after Somali premier Omar Abdirashid has made a peace appeal to the feuding clans in Mudug and Sool regions of Somalia.
The Prime Minister called out for immediate cease-fire and reconciliation among the warring clans, he urged to seek peaceful settlement for both clans who cohabit together in those two regions.
“It is regrettable to see the occurrence of conflict in these two regions, and I call out to both warring sides to immediate unconditional cease-fire, and remind them that conflict and unnecessary loss of lives will not resolve anything other than escalate animosity. Somalia has moved away from the era of decaying clan conflicts, we now seek development, peace and prosperity,” said Prime Minister Sharmarke.
The Puntland government has created committee comprising of elders and politicians to resolve the repeated clan clashes in the region but nothing much was done.
