Transport Ministry Denies Disruption Claims, Says License Plate Services Unaffected

Storyline:National News

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation has dismissed as “false and misleading” reports circulating online that allege disruptions within the ministry and a suspension of key public services.

In a statement, the ministry said the process of issuing vehicle license plates remains fully operational, rejecting claims that the service had been halted or delayed.

“The issuance of official vehicle plates is proceeding normally and without interruption,” the ministry said, adding that reports suggesting otherwise were fabricated.

The ministry linked the circulation of the claims to efforts aimed at undermining a recent directive by national security agencies mandating the installation and use of official vehicle registration plates across the country.

Officials said they had received information indicating that some individuals were being paid to spread misinformation, describing the campaign as an attempt to erode public confidence and obstruct the enforcement of lawful security measures.

The federal government has in recent months stepped up vehicle identification requirements as part of broader efforts to strengthen security, improve monitoring of vehicles and curb criminal activities, including attacks carried out using unregistered cars.

The ministry said the use of official plates is a legal requirement and a key component of national security, helping authorities protect lives and property.

It also rejected reports of internal disputes within the institution, stating that all departments are functioning in a coordinated and orderly manner.

The ministry called on security agencies to investigate those responsible for disseminating what it described as false information and to take legal action where necessary.

Somalis were urged to rely on official government communication channels for verified updates, as authorities continue to implement measures aimed at reinforcing public safety and state institutions.
