GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation and the New Mogadishu Development Company (NMDC) have agreed to deepen cooperation on major infrastructure projects, a move expected to strengthen transport, energy supply and public services for Somali citizens.

The agreement follows high-level talks led by the ministry’s Director General, Omar Afrax, during which both sides committed to closer coordination on aviation, electricity and urban infrastructure projects viewed as critical to economic recovery and job creation.

A key outcome of the discussions was a shared framework to align government transport priorities with NMDC’s development plans, including work linked to the proposed New Mogadishu International Airport.

Officials said improved aviation infrastructure would enhance domestic and international connectivity, lower travel costs over time and support trade and investment.

The talks also placed strong emphasis on expanding reliable electricity and energy systems in the New Mogadishu area, which authorities say is essential for households, businesses and public institutions.

The sustained collaboration is also expected to accelerate delivery of strategic infrastructure, improve access to services for citizens and contribute to long-term national development, as Somalia seeks to rebuild critical systems after decades of conflict.
