Tropical cyclone hits Puntland in less than a week
Tropical cyclone has hit the coastal areas of Semi-autonomous regional state of Puntland for second time in less than a week.
The storm which struck Aluula town and several other villages at about 8:30pm yesterday has caused minor damage to other the structures in those areas, according residents.
Some roofing material, door, and window damage of buildings. Considerable damage to shrubbery and trees with some trees blown down.
In Alula and Bareedo towns, the impact of Chapala has been felt and people are on high alert for possible tides and flooding.
Strong winds with heavy rains was experienced in areas situated along the storm path.
Hundreds of people were ordered to evacuate flood-threatened areas along Indian Ocean as storms bringing torrential rains, according to Puntland officials.
