Turkey Denies Reports of S-400 Transfer to Somalia, Reaffirms Defense Cooperation
GOOBJOOG NEWS | ANKARA: Turkey has firmly denied reports claiming that it plans to transfer its S-400 air defense missile system to Somalia, according to statements carried by Clash Report citing the Turkish Defense Ministry.
The Ministry of National Defense said there are no plans to deploy the Russian-made S-400 missile system outside Turkey, stressing that the system was procured solely to meet the operational needs of the Turkish Armed Forces.
The ministry added that the air defense system remains in full operational readiness as part of Turkey’s national security infrastructure.
Clash Report cited Turkish officials as urging the public not to rely on unverified claims circulated through unofficial sources, noting that similar reports regarding the S-400 system have surfaced in the past.
While dismissing the transfer claims, Turkish authorities reaffirmed Ankara’s ongoing defense and security cooperation with Somalia. That partnership includes support for military training, counterterrorism operations and maritime security, as well as broader capacity-building efforts.
Turkey and Somalia have in recent years deepened strategic ties, particularly in defense and security, as part of a wider framework of bilateral cooperation aimed at strengthening Somalia’s institutional and security capabilities.
