Turkey Hands Over High-Speed Patrol Boats to Somali Forces

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Four Turkish high-speed patrol boats arrived at the Port of Mogadishu Thursday and were handed over to the Somali coast guard, signifying the country’s resolve to enhance the capability of its coast guard forces.

The arrival of the vessels was marked by a high-level ceremony attended by officials from the Federal Government of Somalia led by Defense Minister Omar Ali Abdi, who received the boats from Turkish Ambassador to Somalia Alper Aktaş.

The Turkish Ambassador reiterated that the boats will significantly enhance coastal security, noting that Turkey’s support for Somalia, which began in 2011, continues to grow stronger.

Somalia’s Defense Minister expressed gratitude to the Turkish government, saying that the boats will play a crucial role in combating piracy and securing Somalia’s maritime resources.

During the ceremony, certificates were awarded to specially trained Coast Guardsmen who will operate the new patrol boats, marking a significant step forward in strengthening Somalia’s naval capabilities.

Also present during the event included; Commander of the Armed Forces, the Deputy Commander of the Somali National Army, the Commander of the Navy, and other officers.
