GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Turkey has pledged to expand technical training and higher education support to strengthen Somalia’s fisheries sector, a move that will help build long-term national capacity in the blue economy.

During talks in Mogadishu on Saturday, Turkish Ambassador Alper Aktaş told Fisheries and Blue Economy Minister Ahmed Hassan Aden that Turkey will roll out advanced training programmes on modern fishing techniques for Somali fishers. Ankara also committed to sponsoring masters level university studies to develop Somali specialists in marine resource management.

Somali officials said the pledge will have “major impact” by improving local expertise, increasing sustainable fishing practices, and supporting the government’s efforts to better manage offshore resources.

The ministry added that the expanded cooperation will help Somalia tap more effectively into its vast maritime potential, boost livelihoods in coastal communities, and strengthen the country’s emerging blue economy.
