Turkey’s former Ambassador to Somalia, Mr. Kani Torun appointed as a chief advisor to Turkish Prime Minister

ANKARA, Turkey — Turkey’s former Ambassador to Somalia, Mr. Cemalettin Kani Torun was recently appointed as a chief advisor to Turkish Prime Minister Mr. Ahmet Davutoglu on African affairs, international development and humanitarian issues.

Mr. Kani Torun was earlier nominated as a Turkish new ambassador to Somalia immediately after H.E. Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdogan, visited Somalia on 19 August 2011 accompanied by a delegation, which included members of his family and several members of his Council of Ministers.

During his stay in Somalia, the ambassador had established a permanent diplomatic residence in Mogadishu and made Turkey’s approach in Somalia appear to be well appreciated. Dr. Kani also effectively coordinated Turkish massive humanitarian assistance which included huge number of free scholarships, rebuilding the main Mogadishu roads, restoring hospitals and building schools as well as for training and equipping the Government’s security forces.

Kani who is a medical doctor by profession, was formerly chairman of the UK branch of Doctors Worldwide and he also served as a volunteer for long years in different parts of the world helping those in need.
