GOOBJOOG NEWS/ANKARA: The Turkish parliament on Wednesday approved an extension of the country’s  military missions in Somalia for another year until February 10, 2023.

The resolution was reached by Turkey’s parliament after a proposal by the Turkish presidency for an extension of the country’s forces’ deployment in the Gulf of Aden, Somalia, and the Arabian Sea.

Members of the Turkish parliament endorsed a motion extending the troops’ presence in Somalia until next year, after their mandate ended on February 10, 2022.

The extension of Turkish military missions on Somali soil comes amid claims that the Turkish troops have been used for political reasons contrary to their assigned mandate.
