Turkish Exploration Vessel Completes 50% Seismic Surveys in Somalia-Minister

GOOBJOOG NEWS|ISTANBUL: Turkey has announced a 50% completion of the 3D Seismic Survey in Somalia in a major step towards oil exploitation in the Horn of Africa nation.
Türkiye’s Minister of Petroleum Alparslan Bayraktar announced the milestone Friday following a meeting with his Somali counterpart, Dahir Shire Mohamed, in Istanbul.
“Our Oruç Reis vessel has completed 50% of the seismic work in the Somali Seas. We evaluated the next process of the exploration work with the Minister and the new collaborations we can develop in the land fields,” Bayraktar said.
He added that the two countries had ‘also decided to start a new collaboration process in the field of mining.’ We will continue our efforts to raise our cooperation in the fields of energy and mining to a level befitting the close and sincere relations between our countries, he added.
Somalia has granted Turkish exploration licenses in a maritime jurisdiction area divided into three fields covering a total of 15,000 square km.
