Turkish government donates trucks and other equipment to Somali government
Turkish government on Sunday donated trucks, cement mixers and other equipment to Somali government.
The donation which will be used to improve the country’s infrastructure was handed over to Mogadishu government at a ceremony held at the compound of the Turkish Red Crescent in Mogadishu.
Turkish Red Crescent and the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) made the donations for the Mogadishu local government in the presence of Deputy Prime Minister Veysi Kaynak and Somali officials.
Speaking at the ceremoney Turkish deputy PM said the trucks and the equipment donated by his country would help improve transportation infrastructure in the country, saying building new roads helps a country to prosper.
“We hope that our Somali brothers and sisters will not have to suffer any more from traveling on dusty roads,” he said.
Kaynak pointed that his government has always helped Somalia fight drought and hunger.
“Turkish people see Somalis as their brothers and sisters and we will extend more aid to Somalia,” the Turkish deputy PM.
Meanwhile Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Veysi Kaynak who arrived in Mogadishu on Sunday has held talks with Somali president, Nohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo at the presidential palace.
The sides discussed relations between the two countries and the humanitarian crisis in the country.
Turkish deputy prime said that the Turkish government will send to Somalia 11,000 tons of humanitarian aid, including medicine and food.
“Turkey donated at least 170 tons of aid on Sunday and soon Somalia will receive 11,000 tons from Turkey,” Kaynak said at the meeting with Somali president.
Somali president, for his part, thanked the Turkish government and people for their “live-saving support” in Somalia.
