Turkish Military Delegation in Mogadishu to Discuss Defense Cooperation

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: A high-level Turkish Military delegation comprising of Navy and Land Forces commanders and officials are in Mogadishu as part of the recently signed defense and economic cooperation agreement between Somalia and Turkey.

The Ankara delegation was received by Somalia’s Defense Minister Abduqadir Mohamed Noor and Major General Ibrahim Sheikh Muhuddin, the Commander of the Somali National Army at the Somali National Army’s headquarters.

Somali government officials said the meeting aims to strengthen the capacity and equip the Somali National Army to enable it handle its security responsibilities effectively.

The Turkish delegation’s visit underscores the deepening ties between the two nations, particularly in defense and economic sectors.

“The collaboration is expected to pave the way for significant advancements in the capabilities of the Somali military, contributing to stability and peace in the region,” the Somali government officials further stated.

According to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), Turkey will provide maritime security support to Somalia to help the African country defend its territorial waters.
