Two Al shabab fighters killed in fighting between SNA and Al-Shabab in Qoryooley
A military official says at least two Al-Shabaab members were killed and three others wounded in a heavy fighting between Somali National Army (SNA) backed by AMISOM and Al Shabab in Lower Shabelle region.
Sources the battle followed when Government soldiers and AMISOM troops attacked Al-Shabaab fighters in Qoryooley barely hours AMISOM pulled off the town.
Qoryoley police commissioner, Ali Hassan said heavily armed Al-Shabaab fighters have briefly seized the key town, during the night-time raid.
“Al Shabaab fighters have forced their way into Qoryoley district, and occupied the police station and other military bases last night, but they were pushed back later,” He said.
Residents say that Al-Shabaab fighters were overpowered by the SNA troops during the combat and Al-Shabaab withdrew the town
Though al-Shabaab was pushed out of key towns in South and Central Somalia, the group has been able to hit high-profile targets in Mogadishu’s heavily fortified areas, including the national courts, the UN compound, the Turkish embassy, and popular gathering places.
