Two more elected to the Lower House in the latest round of voting in Baidoa

Two more members of parliament were elected last night to the Lower House in the ongoing electoral process in Baidoa, the administrative capital of South West State.

The election in Baidoa brings the number of MPs elected in South West State to 61, leaving only 8 seats to be contested in the coming days.

Mohamud Mohamed Boonow got elected by delegates from his clan garnering 30 votes, while his opponents, Abdikadir Mohamed Ali got 21 votes.

Mr. Boonow said he was happy to be re-elected an MP, adding that he hopes to meet the expectations of his community.

Saredo Mohamed Abdalla was elected to the House of the People last night when she won a seat in South West State that was set aside for exclusively female candidates.

Speaking moments after being declared winner, MP-elect Abdalla, said her win was a result of hard work, and called for the unity of all Somalis to help develop the country.

Elections in Somalia’s Southern regional state are expected to be concluded in the next few days as 8 parliamentarians remain to be filled.
