Two Kenyan police officers killed in IED attack in Mandera

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MANDERA: Two Kenyan Police officers from the elite Rapid Deployment Unit (RDU) were killed Sunday after their vehicle hit an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Arabia area, Mandera.

One police officer died on the spot, while the second died in hospital. A police report said two others were in a critical condition.

The al-Shabaab terrorist group has stepped up its attacks on Kenyan soil, killing dozens of police officers along the Kenya-Somalia border since May this year.

The recent attacks have forced the government to suspend plans to open the border between the two nations.

Kenyan soldiers have been in Somalia as part of the African Union Transitional Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) to help fight the al Shabaab terrorist group.
