Two Killed in Landmine Explosion in Beledweyne

GOOBJOOG NEWS | BELEDWEYNE: Two people, a soldier and a civilian were killed Wednesday in a landmine explosion at a restaurant at Haawo Takako, in Baladweyne town, Hiraan region.

According to reports, the blast which targeted the eatery frequented by soldiers also injured a woman who was running the restaurant.

The reports added that the injured woman was rushed to a health center in Beledweyne, the capital of Hiraan region for treatment.

Security forces in the region responded to the scene and controlled movement of people and traffic in a bid to avert more injuries to civilians in the area.

The security agencies have also launched a probe to establish the motive of the attack and also find out who is responsible.  

No group claimed the responsibility of the blast but the Al-Shabaab have been active in the region and have carried out attacks targeting civilians and government personnel in the past.

Federal government of Somalia president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has instructed national forces to intensify their operations across the country aimed at liberating all parts of Somalia from the Al-shabaab group.
