Two Men Convicted of Mogadishu Murders, Executed over Al-Shabaab Links

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The military court has executed two men by firing squad after convicting them of multiple murders in the capital Mogadishu.
The men, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi, known as Maaxi or Yoonis, and Ibrahim Aden Maadey, had been sentenced to death following a trial in which prosecutors presented evidence of their involvement in several killings.
The executions, carried out at dawn in the presence of senior court officials, were described by judges as retribution, or qisaas, for the victims’ families.
The military court has stepped up capital punishment in recent weeks, executing several people convicted of serious crimes.
Rights groups have criticised Somalia’s use of the death penalty, but authorities say it remains a deterrent in the fight against violent crime and insecurity.
