Two people injured in alleged shoot by AU soldier in Beladweyne
At least two civilians have been injured after one of Djibouti soldiers serving with African Union Mission to Somalia (AMISOM) allegedly opened fire on civilians in Somali’s central town, Beladweyn, witnesses have told Goobjoog news.
The AMISOM soldier open fire on civilians after argument sparked between the soldier and a woman who was selling Miraa (Khat).
The shooting took place at Hawlwadaag suburb, according to local resident who spoke to Radio Goobjoog News after the incident.
“The soldier was arguing with a woman who was selling Khat. All over sudden he moved back and starting shooting at the woman so she escaped safely but injured two other people” said local resident who asked not be named.
Somali government and AU mission officials have not commented on the matter.
This is the first shooting by an AU peacekeeper turning his gun on innocent civilians in Somalia since their arrival in 2007.
