Two people killed and two others injured as gunmen clash over land in Mogadishu
At least two people were killed and two others injured on Monday evening in a brief gunfire exchange between two militias over land in Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu.
An eyewitness who identified himself as Ahmed told Goobjoog News that two militia groups quarreled over land at Mo’alin Nur neighborhood which prompted the two groups to engage in a gun battle that led to the death of a civilian and two others injured.
“They engaged in a gun battle in Moalim Noor neighborhood near Dabaqa-Dagoodiya. There was heavy traffic snarl up for some time. I saw two wounded people and I was informed that two bodies of people who were killed in the fighting had been ferried away,” said Ahmed.
In the recent months people have been grubbing land and building houses in several areas including former US embassy, Somali national university and the land of Somalia’s factory of leather bags.
Many people who were displaced by the country’s civil war that broke out early 1990s after Somalia’s central government led by late Mohamed Siyad Barre who was topple by rebellions have settled in government buildings and other public areas.
