State police on Monday detained two men suspected of skippering a migrant vessel that capsized in the Strait of Sicily yesterday, causing the deaths of at least 45 people including a baby and two toddlers. Italy’s Navy ship Vega on Sunday rescued 629 people from that incident, bringing them to Italy along with the bodies of three children aged two months to two years, 36 women, and six men. The survivors include 419 men, 138 women and 72 minors from Eritrea, Libya, Morocco, Nigeria, Morocco, Pakistan, Senegal, and Somalia.
