Two warring clans clinch peace deal in Galgaduud

Traditional elders from two warring clans in Somalia’s Galgaduud region signed a peace agreement in Galdon village on Sunday.

Over thirty elders were selected from each clan to sign an agreement to end the clashes without conditions. They further agreed to forget what happened in the past and to work towards peace and stability.

The ceremony was attended by the Somali government officials led by the chief area, Abdikariin Mohamed Yussuf, traditional elders from neigbouring clans, the two clans, and other local officials.

Yussuf  welcomed the agreement and thanked the elders who helped bring peace to the region.

He called on both sides to uphold the peace deal.

The agreement comes a month after a heavy battle between clan militias, which killed at least ten people.
