U.S. Airstrike Targets ISIS Militants in Somalia’s Bari Region

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM), in coordination with the Federal Government of Somalia, carried out a targeted airstrike in northeastern Somalia, as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle Islamic State (ISIS) operations in the region.
The precision strike took place approximately 70 kilometers southeast of Bosaso, in the rugged terrain of Puntland’s Bari region, an area known for harboring extremist cells affiliated with ISIS.
According to Somali officials, the operation was launched in direct support of Puntland Security Forces’ intensified campaign to root out militant strongholds.
AFRICOM confirmed the strike, stating that battle damage assessments are underway to determine the effectiveness and outcomes of the operation.
“This joint action underscores the continued commitment between Somalia and its international partners to degrade terrorist threats and restore stability,” the Somali government said in a statement.
The United States remains one of Somalia’s key security allies, providing critical support in intelligence, logistics, and precision strikes to combat both ISIS and the al-Qaeda-affiliated al-Shabaab insurgency.
Further updates on casualties and operational success are expected as assessments continue.
