U.S ambassador to Somalia presents credentials to President Farmaajo

U.S ambassador to Somalia Donald Yamamoto today presented his credentials to President Mohamed Farmaajo officially marking his start of duty in Somalia.

Ambassador Yamamoto becomes the second U.S ambassador following resumption of relations between Somalia and the U.S in 2013. His start of duty in Somalia marks a major milestone in the relations between the two countries and a stamp of approval on Somalia’s recovery and stability.

Ambassador Yamamoto who has been described as a seasoned diplomat with vast experience in Africa is expected to bolster relations between Mogadishu and Washington with a full diplomatic presence in the country.

Yamamoto was appointed Charge d’Affaires for US Mission to Somalia in May 2016 and subsequently  Acting Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs . Previously, he served as the U.S. Ambassador to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, 2006 to 2009 and to Djibouti, 2000-2003.
