U.S. Conducts Airstrike on Al-Shabaab Target in Joint Operation with Somali Forces

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The United States Africa Command (AFRICOM), in coordination with the Federal Government of Somalia has carried out an airstrike targeting Al-Shabaab militants approximately 40 miles northwest of Kismayo.
The strike forms part of ongoing joint efforts to degrade the capabilities of the Al-Shabaab insurgency, which continues to threaten Somali civilians, security forces, and regional stability.
In a statement, the Somali government thanked AFRICOM for its continued support and reiterated its commitment to eliminating terrorist threats and restoring lasting peace across the country.
“With the support of our international partners and the determination of the Somali people, we will not relent in our fight against violent extremism,” the government said.
While specific details of the operation, including potential casualties, have not yet been disclosed, AFRICOM stated that initial assessments indicated no civilian harm, a key point of focus in its engagement strategy in Somalia.
The strike underscores the deepening cooperation between Somali and U.S. forces as Somalia intensifies its military campaign against Al-Shabaab strongholds in southern and central regions.
