U.S. Launches Fresh Strikes on Iran After Trump Vows to Hit Tehran “Very Hard”
GOOBJOOG NEWS|WASHINGTON: The United States has launched a new wave of airstrikes against targets in Iran, hours after President Donald Trump warned that Washington would respond forcefully to what he described as a “surprise attack” by Tehran American military bases in the Middle East.
According to the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), the operation lasted about two hours and targeted dozens of facilities linked to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), including command centers, missile and drone infrastructure, coastal surveillance systems and maritime defense sites. U.S. officials described the strikes as a direct response to an Iranian ballistic missile attack on American military installations in the region a day earlier, which U.S. forces said was largely intercepted.
Speaking before the operation, Trump said the United States would retaliate decisively.
“We’re going to be hitting them very hard,” the president said, accusing Iran of launching an unprovoked attack despite diplomatic contacts between the two countries.
The latest strikes mark another significant escalation in the conflict that has intensified across the Middle East in recent months. Iranian authorities have not immediately released a comprehensive casualty toll, although Iranian media reported explosions in several areas and confirmed damage at military-linked sites.
The renewed military action comes amid growing fears that the confrontation could expand further across the region. Jordan said its air defenses intercepted several Iranian missiles passing through its airspace during the latest exchange, while neighboring countries remain on high alert over the possibility of additional attacks.
The United States maintains that the strikes were intended to degrade Iran’s military capabilities and protect American personnel stationed across the Middle East. CENTCOM said the operation specifically targeted facilities associated with missile launches, drone operations and military command networks.
Diplomatic efforts to contain the crisis appear increasingly fragile. Although regional and international mediators continue to push for renewed negotiations and a ceasefire, the latest exchange has raised concerns that prospects for de-escalation have diminished significantly.
The widening conflict has also renewed concerns over regional stability and global energy markets, particularly as tensions remain high around the Strait of Hormuz, a critical shipping route for global oil supplies.
