U.S. offers $ 5 million bounty for information on senior Al-Shabaab official

GOOBJOOG NEWS/WASHINGTON D.C. The United States has announced a $ 5 million reward for information leading to the arrest of Jehad Serwan Mostafa, alias Ahmed Gurey, a senior Al-Shabaab member in Somalia.

The U.S. Department of Justice said in a statement that Mostafa, 41, a former California resident, graduated from a college in San Diego, California, before moving to Somalia in 2005. 

Mustafa, who the U.S. Justice Department said is on FBI’s Most Wanted List, is accused of involvement in Al-Qaeda-linked attacks in East Africa, including in Kenya and Somalia.

He is believed to have taken part in attacks against Ethiopian forces before joining Al-Shabaab in 2008.

“Mostafa has held sensitive positions, including as a military trainer in the group’s training camps, leading foreign fighters, working in the media wing of the group, working as a mediator between Al-Shabaab and other terrorist organizations as well as leading a terrorist attack team,” said the State’s Justice Department.

According to the Justice Department, Mostafa was arraigned in a Southern California district court on charges of conspiracy to provide material support to Al-Shabaab, On October 9, 2009
