GOOBJOOG NEWS|KAMPALA: Ugandan President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has pledged to send more military equipment to support Somalia’s war against Al-Shabaab.

Museveni made the remarks on Monday in a meeting with Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, who was attending the country’s 60th-anniversary celebrations.

Mohamud expressed gratitude to Museveni for dispatching his troops, now numbering more than 6,000, to join the more significant peacekeeping force, ATMIS, commissioned by the African Union.

He said that his government was committed to wiping out Al-Shabaab from all parts of the country and that, within the next six months, his government would have attained full victory over the terrorist group.

Museveni said the East African region may work to help Somalia get weaponry, so the nation should have a strategy to create a national army.

“We shall give you more equipment to address the security situation. We in the region can work towards providing equipment. You should have a plan to build a national army. The people must build their army to defend themselves, “
