UK announces additional £2.3 million support to Somali military in its fight against Al-Shabaab
GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: The UK government has announced an additional £2.3 million to support the Somali military in its fight against Al-Shabaab.
The new funding was announced by UK Ambassador to Somalia Kate Foster at a meeting with the Minister of Defense of Somalia, Abdulkadir Mohamed Noor, in his office in Mogadishu.
The Ambassador Kate said the UK looked forward to working closely with Somali on shared security interests.
According to Kate Foster, the additional funding will contribute to the provision of critical, non-lethal logistical support, including food, medical evacuation, and other supplies.
In the financial year 2021/2022, the UK provided £4.9 million of funding to the United Nations Support Office in Somalia (UNSOS) Trust Fund, which was crucial in the provision of a year’s worth of support to Somali soldiers and police.
The Ambassador pledged UK’s commitment to support Somalia in it’s quest to achieve stability and rid the country of the Al-Shabaab menace.
