Ulema Conference Enters Third Day With Focus on Security, Governance
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The third Ulema Conference entered its third day on Wednesday in Mogadishu, drawing more than 300 religious scholars from across the country, the wider Horn of Africa, Europe, and the United States, the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs said.
The gathering is examining key national issues, including security, social cohesion, and good governance, with scholars voicing support for ongoing military operations against militant groups.
Officials say the broad participation reflects a growing consensus among Somali religious leaders to counter extremist ideology and bolster stability.
Sessions throughout the day are expected to explore how Islamic scholars can help reinforce unity, strengthen governance practices, and challenge the narratives used by extremist groups to influence communities.
Organizers say the annual conference has become an important forum for national dialogue as Somalia pushes ahead with state-building, reconciliation, and security reforms.
