UN Report Identifies Bosaso as Transit Hub for Networks Supporting Sudan’s RSF
GOOBJOOG NEWS|NEW YORK: A new United Nations report has identified Somalia’s port city of Bosaso as one of the transit points allegedly used by international networks to support Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
The UN Independent International Fact-Finding Mission for Sudan said it had reasonable grounds to believe that private companies, logistics brokers and recruitment agencies used Bosaso as a transit hub.
According to the report, the networks used routes through Bosaso, Chad and southeastern Libya to deliver various forms of support to the RSF, which is led by General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, widely known as Hemedti.
The mission said it had documented the recruitment of approximately 2,000 former members of the Colombian military who were confirmed to have joined RSF units.
The report said the recruits used advanced military equipment during the conflict, including drones, artillery and other weapons.
The mission also reported that the Sudanese Armed Forces, led by General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, used foreign-supplied drones. Some of the resulting airstrikes reportedly caused civilian casualties.
The UN mission called for independent investigations into all individuals, governments and companies suspected of ordering, financing or facilitating logistical routes used in the Sudan conflict.
Puntland authorities have not yet responded to the allegations concerning Bosaso contained in the UN report.
