UN Security Council to Issue Brief on Somalia’s Situation
UNITED NATIONS: The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) is scheduled to hold a meeting Monday to deliberate on various issues about Somalia.
UN Special Representative for Somalia, Catriona Laing said the council will provide a detailed update on Somalia’s developments at 6:00 PM Mogadishu time.
“Looking forward to briefing the UN Security Council on Somalia tomorrow Monday 19 February at 10 am NY time,” she posted on her official X account.
The meeting will focus on Somalia’s security and political progress and the ongoing efforts to combat the Al-Shabaab insurgency and implement security sector reforms.
The Federal Government of Somalia has made commendable strides in restoring peace and stability in various parts of the country and liberating areas previously under the control of the Al-Shabaab militants, and enhancing the capacity of the Somali National Army to take over security responsibilities of the country from the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).
The UN Security Council’s deliberations serve as a platform to assess current developments, strategize future actions, and reaffirm commitment to supporting Somalia’s path to peace and development.
