UN Under-Secretary-General Arrives in Mogadishu Ahead of AU, UN Transitions

GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations for Political Affairs and Peacebuilding Rosemary A. DiCarlo arrived in Mogadishu Thursday.

The UN official was welcomed by the UN head in Somalia James Swan and Foreign Affairs Minister Ahmed Fiqi. According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Minister Fiqi briefed DiCarlo on major political processes including the National Consultative Council talks.

The arrival of DiCarlo comes amid transition process from African Union to Somali Security Forces and preparations for the assumption of a new security outfit dubbed AUSSOM next January.

The UN Support Mission in Somalia (UNSOM) is also expected to undergo a transition to UN Transition Mission ((UNTMIS).
