Unidentified planes seen flying over Jilib town
Unidentified warplanes have been spotted hovering over an Al-Shabab town of Jilib, residents in Jilib town said.
Residents in the majorly Al-Shabab controlled town reported that they saw low-level warplanes over the skyline on Tuesday afternoon.
Residents say they could hear load sound coming from the planes which were repeatedly flying over the towns. It is not known the motive
behind the planes and which country they belonged to.
The residents expressed deep concern over the warplanes fearing that bombardments may follow in the biggest Al-Shabab stronghold in Somalia’s Southern and Middle Jubba.
So far, there is no word from Al-Shabab militants who control the coastal towns of Marka and Barawe.
Jilib is a town in Somalia, with an estimated population of approximately 45,000 people. The town is located on the main road from Mogadishu south to Kismayo and is the most populous town in the Middle Jubba Region.
US air strikes killed Ahmed Abdi Godane, a founder of Somalia’s Al-Shabab group near Barawe in 2014.
